小学生英汉词典呈现一定的科学知识,有利于培养儿童的科学概念和思维方式。通过对比三本词典动物类词条的信息构成,发现目前小学生英汉词典在科学知识呈现方面存在严重不足:科学知识量偏少;呈现方式没有统一规范;呈现的知识科学性不足,例如科学叙事不严谨,科学信息不足,插图不真实等。在有限的篇幅内,小学生英汉词典可借助真实插图提供外形、颜色等外貌形态知识,通过例证提供典型特征、生活习性、居住地、功能、食物等科学知识。小学生英汉词典要以用户需求为依归,紧跟时代脉搏,积极提升科学概念功能和科学叙事功能,发挥科学教育功能。
Abstract:
Abstract: One of the purposes of English-Chinese dictionaries for primary school students is to present scientific knowledge in the entry to inspire children to explore the world and form scientific thinking. As we compare two dictionaries for primary school students, we find that there is a serious lack of scientific knowledge in the English-Chinese Dictionary. With special reference to animal headwords as the examples, we find that there is a small amount of scientific knowledge about animals; the presentation of the knowledge is not systematic; the information included in the entry cannot reflect the typical features of the animals. Some examples cannot fulfill the function of scientific knowledge presentation by using the wrong narrative devices, neglecting the typical features of the headword and using fake illustrations. It is suggested that within limited space, English-Chinese dictionaries could cope with the scientific knowledge compilation by making full use of examples and real pictures as illustrations to present the typical features. English-Chinese dictionaries for young English learners in China should take into account the need of users for science education by promoting the conceptual function and the narrative function in dictionary writing.
