五四运动前夕,美国著名教育家杜威偕夫人受邀访华。来华期间,他们对中国儿童教育饶有兴趣,以巡回演说、参与会议和参观学校的方式,投身推进中国儿童教育事业。杜威剖析了中国传统儿童教育的宿疾,阐明了儿童务必受教的因由,描画了新式儿童教育的表征,并有的放矢地调配出推进教育转型、兴办教育机构的药方。在杜威教育思想的辐射下,中国儿童教育在思想、制度和实践上进行了一定程度的变革。杜威一行远渡重洋投身中国教育事业,为推进当代中外教育交流和中国儿童教育事业发展提供了历史借鉴。
Abstract:
On the eve of the May Fourth Movement,John Dewey,a famous American educator,was invited to visit China with his wife.During their stay in China,they showed great interest in Chinese children’s education,and devoted themselves to advancing Chinese children’s education through touring speeches,participating in conferences,and visiting schools.Dewey analyzed the ills of traditional Chinese children’s education,clarified the reasons why children must be taught,described the characteristics of new children’s education,and targetedly formulated prescriptions to promote the transformation of education and establish educational institutions.Under the radiation of Dewey’s educational thoughts,Chinese children’s education had undergone a certain degree of change in thought,system and practice.Dewey traveled across the ocean to engage in China’s education,providing historical lessons for advancing contemporary Chinese and foreign education exchanges and the development of Chinese children’s education.
