以英国汉学家翟理斯1872年出版的汉语口语教材《汉语无师自通》①为中心,通过对该教材语音、口语教学和日常句式等方面的分析,揭示其在翟理斯汉语教材中的重要性。同时,将其与威妥玛的《语言自迩集》进行比较,发现该教材具有标音体系简单、省略声调以降低学习难度、语法精简、具有针对性等特点。该教材所表现出来的编写原则和教学方法对当下国际汉语教学具有一定的启示和借鉴价值。

The paper is based on the spoken Chinese textbook Chinese without a teacher which was published by the British sinologist Giles in 1872. Through the analysis of Chinese phonetics, spoken Chinese teaching and daily sentence of the textbook, the paper shows its importance in the Giles’s Chinese textbooks. At the same time, comparing it with Wade’s Yü Yen Tzǔ ěrh Chi, the paper finds that it has the features of simple phonetic system, omission of tone to reduce learning difficulties, simplified grammar and pertinence. The principles of compiling and teaching methods in the textbook have certain inspiration and referential significance for the Teaching Chinese to Speaker of Other Language(TCSOL).
