古代文论和书画论中常使用“生意”“生气”“生机”“生趣”“生动”“如生”“活”及“死”“板”“结”“滞”“僵”等术语来评价诗文与书画作品,体现了中国古代以是否具有生命力作为文艺评价标准的观念。这一批评标准是“法自然”哲学观在文学、书画观上的反映。从根源上说,中国古代文论和书画论中的“神”和“自然”范畴与“生意”范畴的内涵是相通的。

In ancient literary and calligraphy & painting theories,such terms as“vital”,“vivid”,“lively”,“picturesque”,“lifesome”,“living”,“dramatic”,“dead”,“inflexible”,“rigid”,“stiff”and“standstill” are often used to evaluate poetry and calligraphy & painting works.This phenomenon shows that vitality was the standard of literary and artistic evaluation then.This critical standard is the reflection of the philosophy of “abiding by the law of nature” in literature,calligraphy and paintings.The connotations of “essence and spirit”,“nature” and “vitality” in ancient literary and calligraphy & painting theories were interlinked.
