融合MOOC和云班课平台的外语翻转课堂教学日益盛行,但其在口语表达和演讲能力方面的促学效用尚存争议。根据自建MOOC并应用云班课的校本英语演讲翻转课堂教学实践,通过问卷和访谈收集有关学生演讲能力的前测和后测数据,对学习者体验和满意度进行分析。结果显示,基于MOOC和云班课的翻转课堂教学虽然对学习者演讲焦虑管理和道德观念提升的作用有限,但是在提升观点表达、组织、支撑、语言应用以及观众意识方面具有显著的促学效用。发现表明翻转课堂对演讲能力具有促学效用,同时也表明,翻转课堂建设需要以学习者体验为着力点,注重发挥教师的主体作用,以及线下课堂与线上平台的互动协同作用。
Abstract:
While a flipped approach that integrates MOOC and Cloudclass is increasingly popular in English language education, the instructional efficacy of such approach to oral expression and public speaking remains controversial. This paper reports on a study that investigates the use of a MOOC and a Cloud-class in a public speaking course at a university in China. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. A comparison of the pre-and-post experiment data shows that while students reported little change in their anxiety and their awareness of ethics in public speaking, students demonstrated significant improvement in idea expression, language use, outlining, use of supporting materials, and audience awareness. The finding lends support to the instructional efficacy of flipped classroom. The study calls for attention to students’ learning experience, teachers’ guiding role, and the interactive synergy between online platforms and offline classroom activities during the construction of a flipped learning environment.
