摘要:: 约翰·厄普代克的短篇小说通过人物的生活片段与内心思绪等平淡的描写，引导读者进行深层的伦理思考。其创作本质在于用文学反映整个时代的伦理风貌。在多篇短篇小说中，厄普代克将主人公置于相应的伦理环境和伦理身份，通过人物的伦理选择与相应的结局表现他的伦理意识；借助家庭关系组成的伦理环境和伦理身份，探讨家庭伦理，延续传统的家庭伦理道德；通过描写主人公在异国的言行举止，阐释了人道主义伦理观，即婚姻理性化、种族平等化，乃至政治民主化的伦理意识；利用琐碎的生活细节，回应当下的生态困境，体现其渴望人与自然和谐统一的生态伦理。

Abstract:: John Updike’s short stories provoke deep ethical thinking through his depiction of the characters’ life fragments and their inner feelings.The essence of his writings lies in the reflection of ethical features of the whole age.In many of his short stories，Updike places the protagonists in certain ethical situation and ethical identity，showing his ethical consciousness through the characters’ethical choice and the consequent results.With the description of the protagonists’behaviors in other countries，he exemplifies the ethics of humanitarianism，i.e.the ethic consciousness of rational marriage，racial equality and political democracy.In addition，Updike writes about many details of life as an answer to the contemporary ecological dilemma，embodying his ecological ethics for the harmony between man and nature.
